On June 7th award-winning filmmaker Mahnaz Mohammadi began serving a five year sentence in Iran’s infamous Evin Prison. She was convicted of “plotting against state security” and collaborating with BBC Persian, both of which Mohammadi denies. In 2011 the filmmaker was detained and imprisoned for a month after the release of her film We Are Half of Iran’s Population. In the above video, recorded on June 6, Mohammadi speaks about her impending imprisonment.
In the past two months Iran has arrested or questioned at least ten other journalists.
