In “Cultivating Latino Arts” Sampsonia Way profiles María López De León, Executive Director of the National Association of Latino Arts and Culture (NALAC), along with some of the San Antonio, Texas-based organizations and artists that have been NALAC grantees.

María López De León is the Executive Director and board member of the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures (NALAC), the nation’s leading nonprofit organization exclusively dedicated to the promotion, advancement, development, and cultivation of Latino arts. Based in San Antonio, Texas it has been a solid base of support for Latino arts since 1989.

In this interview López discusses how her activist parents and a childhood of social engagement prepared her for her current position and why her nomination to the National Council on the Arts in 2013 was both a joyous and a heartbreaking experience.
