On June 21 Angela Jackson came to Pittsburgh as a faculty member of Cave Canem, an organization committed to cultivating the artistic and professional growth of African American poets. City of Asylum/Pittsburgh co-hosted a reading with Cave Canem which featured Jackson as well as poets Nikky Finney, Thomas Sayers Ellis, and Terrance Hayes.

Angela Jackson is a poet, novelist, and playwright. She has written five books of poetry, one of which was nominated for the National Book Award. Her first novel, Where I Must Go: A Novel was published in 2009.
