Journalists Killed in Syria: The Social Media Reaction

A growing number of journalists have come under attack while covering the conflict in Syria. On February 22, news was released that Sunday Times reporter Marie Colvin, French photojournalist Rémy Ochlyc, and Syrian citizen journalist Rami al-Sayed had been killed by mortar shells in the city of Homs. The news spread quickly on social media and was immediately followed by an outpouring of reactions from colleagues and media organizations with remembrances as well as reminders of the dangers that journalists face while doing their work.

Two days after the attacks that killed Colvin, Ochlyc, and al-Sayed, media activist and photographer Anas al-Tarsha was also killed by a mortar shell in Homs.
