Ghosts of Revolution: An Iranian Memoir by Shahla Talebi

Shahla Talebi was a political prisoner of the Iranian government from 1978 to 1979 and again from 1983 to 1992. In her book Ghosts of Revolution: Rekindled Memories of Imprisonment in Iran she recounts the political climate, torture, and executions she was subject and witness to during her time in Iranian jail. Her work has been described as a collection of “nearly unbearable revelations by a brave writer determined to embrace life rather than despair.”

In March of 2011 Sampsonia Way published an interview with Shahla Talebi. Today we present an excerpt from Ghosts of Revolution where she writes about her first imprisonment before the Iranian Revolution of 1979. The book is published by the Stanford University Press.
