100th Anniversary of International Women’s Day

Today is the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day, a world-wide celebration of the economic, political, and social achievements of women, past and present.
The first International Women’s Day was held in 1911 in Germany, Austria, Denmark and Switzerland. Then, over a million men and women attended rallies to campaign for women’s rights to work, vote and hold public office.
This year’s events are scheduled to take place in more than 100 countries around the world. In commemoration of International Women’s Day, Sampsonia Way recognizes the women writers from around the world who have contributed their transformative words to our pages.
