The Freedom Chat is a new video series by Sampsonia Way featuring interviews with journalists and other media workers facing censorship and repression in their home countries. In these Q&A’s, conducted via video chat, journalists talk with Sampsonia Way about press freedom, anti-free speech legislation, and exile.
For the seventh installment, editorial intern Anne Piotrowski interviewed Nazeeha Saeed, Bahraini correspondent for France 24 and Radio Monte Carlo. While covering Bahrain’s pro-democracy protests in 2011, Saeed was imprisoned and tortured in a local police station. After her release, she brought charges against her torturers and endured a two year trial only to learn that the defendants would be acquitted of their crimes.
